10 representative events of University of Economics and Business - VNU in 2010 Print

 

The eventful year 2010 has just closed, University of Economics and Business - VNU has been striving for its direction of international quality and rank. On the occasion of new year 2011, we would like to review 10 representative events voted by UEB staff and faculty:


1. Party Committee Congress of University of Economics and Business - VNU, 2010 - 2015

5th Congress of Party Committee of University of Economics and Business was solemnly held in the context of national major anniversaries and the preparation of XI National Congress.

With the aim: “Continue to adjust university autonomy to uphold all the sources for a breakthrough in training quality, effectiveness and research”, in 2010 - 2015 term, Party Committee of University of Economics and Business - VNU has set the aim to develop the university to become a research oriented university ranked in Asia; Reaching the assurance standard of the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnam National Univerisyt; Some majors is recognized in accordance with the standards of AUN-QA.

Strategic plans and points of view which have been discussed and approved at the Congress are in support of the university for its sustainable development, and creating breakthroughs in 2011 - 2015 period.

 

2. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan visited and worked with UEB leaders and staff

Within the working visit to Vietnam National University, Hanoi in 24th September 2010, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has led the Governmental delegation to visit and work with leaders and staff of University of Economics and Business - VNU. It was the opportunity for the UEB leader to report about activities, remarkable achievements of the university after three years establishing, especially achievements in adjusting management and proposing solutions to reach high quality and international rank. The Deputy P.M and his delegation has highly evaluated the report and appreciated the development strategy of the university.

The visit by the Deputy P.M at UEB has expressed the support and concern of the Government to University of Economics and Business in particular and to VNU in general. It also was an inspirational encouragement to the university during its innovation process and development in the direction of modern education, regional and international standard.

 

3. External assessment of Honor training program in International Economics Bachelor under AUN-QA standard

December 2010, the UEB has conducted the external assessment for Honor training program in International Economics Bachelor under the standards system of the ASEAN University Network - Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). This is the second time when VNU organized the assessment of a bachelor training program according to Quality Assurance standards of AUN and the tenth time of AUN’s assessment on universities in ASEAN countries. AUN currently has 27 leading universities in 10 ASEAN countries.

According to the outcome, the program has met all the criteria, especially some criteria such as student qualification reached 6 out of 7 (nearly the highest point).

The practical assessment on International Economics Bachelor Honor training program of UEB under AUN standards marked a breakthrough on the process to international and regional rank of the university.

 

4. The UEB receives ISO 9001:2008 Certificate for its standard management system

On 27th April 2010, Vietnam Certification Centre (QUACERT), National Certification Body of Vietnam, Ministry of Sciences and Technology has presented the Certificate of ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System for the University of Economics and Business - VNU. UEB has been the first unit of VNU and one of the few universities nationwide be granted this certification. This is the recognition of the university’s achievements in innovating university autonomy according to modern model. The event has marked a successful step of the university in the process to become a high quality training and research institute, which has the leading position in the country, recognized in the region and the world.

 

5. Prof. Phung Xuan Nha is assigned to take the VNU Vice President position, elected in Executive Board of Hanoi Party Committee and conferred Honor Teacher Title.

September 2010, the Prime Minister issued the decision, which assigned Prof. Phung Xuan Nha the position of VNU Vice President. October 2010, he was elected to Executive Board to Executive Board, Communist Party Committee of Hanoi. In November 2010, Prof. Phung Xuan Nha who was conferred the Title of Honor Teacher, became the first lecturer of the university be granted the noble title. This is not only an individual honor but also the pride and encouragement of all UEB staff and lecturers.

 

6. Three ministry-level research projects by UEB staff were successfully defended, receiving the application address and contribute to the advisory of Vietnam’s socio-economic development

In 2010, three State-level research projects by UEB officials have been implemented and approved with excellent results. All three projects have been the received the invitation to employ to contribute to Vietnam’s socio-economic development. Project “Entrepreneur’s personality and business culture in Vietnam in the renovation process and international integration” headed by Prof. Phung Xuan Nha was chosen by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to use as scientific base in designing the Politburo's Resolution on business force development in the new period. Project “Scientific foundation for the development of service sector for Vietnam by 2020” in charge by Prof. Nguyen Hong Son has been transferred to the Department of Economic Services - Ministry of Planning and Investment for reference in formulating the development strategy of Vietnam’s service sector by 2020. Project “Socialist orientation in developing market economy in Vietnam” headed by Prof. Pham Van Dung has been submitted to the Central Theoretical Council for the construction of National Party Congress XI documents.

The three first State-level research projects of the University of Economics and Business, which has successfully completed, with high practicality, will create a momentum of for further major projects.

 

7. Annual Vietnam economic report 2010 was published in two languages (Vietnamese and English), contributed to the policy advisory for governmental agencies

Following the success of Annual Vietnam’s Economic Report 2009, the Annual Report on Vietnam Economy 2010 has been released. Especially, Annual Vietnam’s Economic Report 2010 was ordered by the Central Theoretical Council, and was published in both Vietnamese and English. After acting as the pilot in 2009, the report increasingly meets the expectations of both the policymakers, researchers and business community.

The report again confirmed the right direction and initial success of the university towards a high quality research-oriented and interdisciplinary university. The model like Annual Report on Vietnam’s economy is an emphasis in strategic research program on macroeconomic of University of Economics and Business continues to be appreciated and be replicated at VNU.

 

8. Global Partnership of Asian Colleges 2010

2010 is the third year University of Economics and Business - VNU participated in Global Parnership of Asian Colleges (GPAC) and the first time the university hosted the activity. Taking place from 24th to 29th August 2010 on the theme The road to the recovery and development of Asia, GPAC 2010 has drawn the participation of many renowned professors and about 150 students from prestigious universities in Asia.

As the host of GPAC 2010, University of Economics and Business - VNU has left impressions of warm greetings and professional organization among international friends. Besides the supporting meetings and activities, UEB students introduced Vietnamese culture to international friends by visits to Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, tourism sites in Hanoi and the world’s natural heritage Ha Long Bay. GPAC 2010 is an excellent opportunity for UEB students to participate in scientific research and academic exchange, sharing cultural issues, knowledge of economic development with international friends, understanding more on global and regional issues; and to enhance soft skills such as teamwork, presentation, organization…

The successful organization of GPAC 2010 by UEB has expressed its capacity of international integration into the process of internationalization of higher education, which is going on strongly in the region and the world.

 

9. 3rd ASEAN Education Forum successfully held by UEB

Hanoi, on 19th August 2010, the UEB and the Asia Strategy & Leadership Institute cooperated to organize the 3rd ASEAN Education Forum 2010 entitled “Green Education for Sustainable Development.” The 3rd ASEAN Education Forum was to boost partnership between Asian and ASEAN public and private universities and to establish a system of green education towards environmental protection and sustainable development. The forum, which has attracted the participation of over 100 delegates from 10 countries in ASEAN and Asia, has made some recommendations on policies and ideas to design training programs towards green education.

The activity has the special significance in the context of climate change and environmental degradation which have been seriously impacting on all countries. 3rd ASEAN education forum contributed to the University of Economics and Business - VNU in expanding cooperation as well as further enhancing the quality and practicality of the training activities, scientific research.

 

10. UEB received excellent emulation flag of VNU for the academic year 2009 - 2010

For academic year 2009 - 2010, University of Economics and Business - VNU has successfully fulfilled its assigned targets and tasks. The university has been presented the emulation flag for its best performance among units of VNU.

With the event, the university has once again confirmed the success of a young and dynamic university, which has the decisive direction of international level. This is a great encouragement and motivation for all UEB staff and lecturers to continue striving for long-term goals.
